Welcome to Monroe County, GA

North Monroe County Water System Customers Will Remain Under Boil Water Advisory Until At Least Thursday, May 18

Monroe County will remain under a Boil Water Advisory for all North Monroe County water system customers through at least Thursday morning (May 18).

The North Monroe County water system includes all areas along Johnstonville Road and to the north of Johnstonville Road (excluding the Riata, River Forest, and River Walk subdivisions). In order to protect the public from a potential health hazard, customers are advised to use only boiled tap water or bottled water for drinking, cooking, or preparing food.

Monroe County’s water system management firm, H2O Innovations, reconnected its North Monroe County water system to Butts County’s system yesterday afternoon (Tuesday, May 16) after repairs were completed to the broken motor starter at the Butts County water plant. For more than 24 hours beginning on Monday morning (May 15), Monroe County’s north water system was receiving water from the City of Forsyth on an emergency basis via a Monroe County Emergency Services (MCES) fire truck as was done in December 2022 when broken lines caused a major water shortage that affected Butts and Monroe counties.

As of this morning, water levels and pressure are rising back toward normal, but we urge North Monroe County water system customers to continue conserving water for one more day until our tanks have fully refilled. Monroe County water officials are submitting a 24-hour bacteria test for state approval this morning. And once the test is passed, the existing Boil Water Advisory will be lifted, hopefully as soon as tomorrow morning.

The Boil Water Advisory does not apply to customers who receive water from the City of Forsyth or customers on Monroe County’s South Water System.

We will update you again as soon as the Boil Water Advisory is ready to be lifted.
